The Decontamination Cycle

The diagram below outlines the stages involved in the decontamination process for flexible endoscopes. Whilst this particular life cycle diagram shows the process stages, it is also important to ensure that there are dedicated facilities, validated equipment and a set of robust policies and procedures to support each and all stages, with an overarching management structure. Importantly the cyclical nature puts focus on this as a chain. Any breach in the chain is risking an incomplete and ineffective decontamination process (see Chapter 2).
