Cleaning and Disinfection Processes
Some robotic or other complex surgical instruments have a provision for flushing of internal surfaces through flush ports that are integrated into the design of the device. The use of these flushing ports may be required as part of the described pre- cleaning procedure and as part of machine washing. Ensure these instruments are loaded in a dedicated wash rack with flushing connections designed for this purpose.
Effective flushing can be achieved using compatible ultrasonic equipment to irrigate lumens and/or control channels prior to insertion into washer/disinfectors. Specialised instruments may require the use of specific washer disinfector cycles that are configured differently to cycles commonly used to wash routine or simple instrumentation. Follow manufacturer’s instructions in the use of dedicated wash cycles described by the device manufacturer. Washer disinfector manufacturers with validated special cycles may be required.
