Further detail of SICP and TBPs’ can be found in the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) for Scotland 3 /Wales 4 , N. Ireland 5 and England 6 . The Infection prevention and Control (IP&C) team should be engaged in advising on IP&C training especially for Hand Hygiene, environmental cleanliness and appropriate use of PPE. Staff should be trained in safe wearing, donning and doffing of PPE as part of their IP&C training competency.

The microbiologist and IP&C team should always be part of the investigation team into any decontamination failure where there is a potential or actual risk of HCAI to the patient or the staff.
